CarePlus Medical Group avoided a $2.6M breach and cut cyber insurance premiums 23% with AI security posture management

A multi-state medical group found 1,400 unpatched vulnerabilities after a near-breach. An AI security posture platform prioritized and auto-remediated the real risks, passed the next HIPAA audit clean, and lowered insurance premiums.

This is an illustrative case study. Company names, identifying details, and testimonials have been changed to protect client confidentiality. The technical solution and target outcomes are representative of the work we do. We extend the same confidentiality to every client.

/ The challenge

Where they started

CarePlus's 31 clinics across 6 states ran a patchwork of medical devices, EHR terminals, and cloud apps. After a phishing attack got one step from exfiltrating 40,000 patient records, an external pentest surfaced 1,400 unpatched vulnerabilities — and no way to tell which ones actually mattered. The security team was two people, cyber insurance was threatening to double the premium, and a HIPAA audit was 90 days out.

/ The solution

What we built

We deployed our Aegis AI security posture platform with continuous threat-surface mapping, AI-driven vulnerability prioritization that scores risk against CarePlus's actual environment, and automated remediation guidance. The two-person security team now works a prioritized queue instead of a 1,400-line spreadsheet, and compliance reporting generates on demand.

More from this project

We came within one click of a breach that would have ended us. Aegis didn't just hand us a list — it told us which 40 of the 1,400 actually mattered and how to fix them. We passed the audit with two findings, and our insurer dropped our premium instead of doubling it.
