SafeLine Insurance cut quote-to-bind from 9 days to 22 minutes and grew written premium 41%

A regional P&C carrier was losing brokers to competitors who quoted in hours, not days. A custom InsurTech platform with automated underwriting and a broker self-service portal collapsed the quote cycle, won back two lost brokerages, and unlocked $11.4M in new written premium in the first year.

/ The challenge

Where they started

SafeLine's personal and commercial lines quoting ran on a 2009 policy admin system and a stack of Excel rating worksheets. A single commercial auto quote touched 4 underwriters, sat in email queues for 9 days on average, and required brokers to fax ACORD forms. Three of SafeLine's top brokerages had moved their books to a competitor that quoted in under an hour, taking $7.8M in annual premium with them. The underwriting team was spending 60% of its week re-keying data instead of assessing risk, and the loss-ratio reporting was 30 days behind — meaning leadership was pricing this year's book on last quarter's claims.

/ The solution

What we built

We deployed our Insure Flow platform with a multi-step quoting wizard, rules-based automated underwriting that binds low-risk personal lines instantly and routes commercial lines to the right underwriter in seconds, and a broker self-service portal where ACORD forms are filled online and pre-validated. Real-time loss-ratio dashboards feed back into the rating engine so pricing adjusts to current claims experience. The platform went live in 10 weeks and replaced the legacy quoting front-end, the rating worksheets, and the fax-based intake process.

More from this project

We lost three brokerages in 18 months because we couldn't quote fast enough. The first week after go-live, we won back two of them — they sent us a risk the competitor had quoted in 4 hours, and we bound it in 19 minutes. The $11.4M isn't a projection, it's the actual number on the book.
